Catherine Lewis, soprano back-pedalling

Catherine Lewis trying out the drone machine for the first time. Catherine was later heard in a new music series ” Instruments, Meet Thy Makers” concert at Open Space Gallery Nov. 1992 The concert was a lot of fun and it brought together the players with the makers. Gary Karr played his Jim Hamm-built bass, and Christine Prince played her viola with a bow built by Reid Hudson to name but two. Percussion, poems, and even the Northumbumbrians (Northumbrian Musical Heritage Society) with four Northumbrian pipers and guitar, grooving away on some traditional tunes. Far from traditional was Catherine’s composition “Attune” for hurdy-gurdy, drum, voice, and drone machine, all of which she played almost simultaneously, and in the words of the local news paper “An ingenious and humorous work performed with panache and flair”.
